House sold

We finally sold the house at 218 (jean's house) about mid August - New Owner has moved in.

We are to visit Branson tomorrow for my 72nd birthday; then to Maumelle AR next week for the Arkansas Symphony there on Sat the19th. Same day as local Chili Cookoff here, unfortunately.

218 Sold...

Fellow accepted comeback to his offer and is now trying to get a loan. One step at a time, I guess...

It appears that I signed an agreement with Beaman, Gary, that Beaman gets commission if we sell 231 to ANYBODY, during their listing period, not just the Local Sisters. Hmm..We have taken it off the market and will relist with someone else when Beaman listing expires in December. Still think of Gary as a slick crook.

Judge in Yellville now has Judgement Order against Shane to sign and distribute, as Shane was, as expected, a No Show at the hearing a few weeks ago. We ask for about 14K total..will have to spend more, probably, to collect anything from current employer or any sale of assets he tries. Prison in Leavenworth for him is still my dream.

Mary's house in Keller, TX sold finally, and she made just a little on the whole deal...Will get some additional benefits on her 2015 taxes, I think.

Fun visits to Branson and Conway in the last 30 days or so. Brother Tom sez my daughter Meghan has relocated nearby "old" place on suburban SFO. News to me. Guess I should adjust some planned gift shipments to grandson Jevin.

Real Estate

Well...

We listed the house with the 'best" agent around. He'd promised to make a drone-video based "movie" about our house - no cost to us. We'll see. Only agent in BS sez she is not accepting listings and the on the market time is measured in years right now.

The listing agency had a walk thru for many of their agents earlier this week...some were disturbed by the presence of Bel Arco Resort across the street (Facts: We built the LR addition with a solid wall to eliminate views to the Resort/East, and really can not see or hear anything from B'A.Current owners are failing to get enough folks in to make it...only rooms "fixed up" i.e. inhabitable, say guests, are those on the far (from us) side of their buildings. Several attempt to reopen the restaurant have failed. Bel Arco is empty most of the time; and on and on...)

We are really disappointed in looking around at other "lake view" homes...outside of BS. Poor views, overpriced; nothing that we would even consider. yet our current place is listed and we'll have to scramble if someone offers our asking price and buys it.

We are now living in 231; 218 (rented thru July) is also For Sale.

Christmas

We will spend the holiday at home...went to see Mary's mother in Conway last Saturday...Turns out she had received approval to go home Saturday; but we did visit for several hours, then drove home. Not planning to visit her house with resident Dog...in Perryville, her home, some 30-40 miles from Conway.

Got the 231 house listed with Beaman, but do not expect a lot of action during Christmastime. We are pretty disappointed in what we have looked at so far (Not BS, Lake view, maybe somewhat smaller) and think perhaps we set our asking price too low.

Mary has literally hundreds of Christmas figures (Santas, reindeer, snowmen, trains, etc.)
We picked three good ones and sent to Jevin; did Netsuke's assortments for Tom, Pat, and Meghan...

No snow yet, some cold, no ice that has stuck. Now 63 degrees. Most all leaves down so the view of the Lake is pretty good.

Runoff...

Arkansas' "Jungle Primary" laws specify that if no one won the election by getting over 50% of the total vote, a runoff must be help between #1 and #2 (literally, in this case...) SO,

Jodi Breedlove, ex-city council member, and leading vote getter Dave Hotchkiss, fired police chief are in a run off scheduled for Nov 25th, a week from today.

Dave sees the Mayor's Job as a part time one, and he pledges to devote a day or so per week to it. Ordinance sez you gotta/oughta live in town; we is a full time resident of neighboring Lakeview, serving as a policeman there. His Mother heads the local Bull Shoals Police auxiliary and has labored to give their money away to regional police departments, like Lakeview. His wife, a convicted felon, can not be in a home with guns, under terms of her probation. Dave has made a deal with Nick, owner of the BS hardware store, terms unknown; but his Mother and his Wife seem to run it. Few customers that I can see...

Jodi had several projects in Missouri; came to BS and made a deal with Nick to run his hardware store with hubby Mike. Arguements with Nick ensued and ended in lawsuits, bankruptcy proceedings, and the store closing for several years. During the campaign, Jodi proposed disbanding the local BS police and outsourcing for police services for $25,000 per month. Now she says she supports local policing and will hire new officers using more discretion and closer supervision. Jodi has not really done much ever for four years; I cynically predict that if elected she goes on to other things before her elected term is expired.

I am busy looking for a new home outta city limits...be nice to be on a lake...mebbe in Norfolk, not far.

======

Dave Hotchkiss, fired Police Chief, with convicted-for-felony-embezzlement wife, won Bull Shoals mayoral runoff election, 336 to 291. Dave says this is a part time job and will continue as a policeman for nearby Lakeview; and continue to run BS Hardware Store, leaving " a day a week", he says, for the mayoral duties.

Election Results

Well...

The Bad Stupid Guys won the election...all Smart Good Guys council candidates lost, and the 3-way mayoral election now goes to a two person race runoff. Jodi Breedlove, ex-city councilman, came in 2nd; Dave Hotchkiss, fired/ex police chief, came in first but not by 50% or more, so a runoff is called for under the Arkansas Jungle Election Rules.

Mayor Bruce Powell's son passed away in Chicago.

Mary called the results.

Signs...

The Mayor showed me a report of an arrest made recently of the husband of one of the mayoral candidates. Sometime after midnight recently, he was caught stealing campaign signs from a nearby lawn. Inquiry to the candidate for comment are yet unanswered.

Tomorrow is the election. Current Mayor is not seeking re-election as Mayor, but is running against his primary nemesis, one of the aldermen on the city council. Name calling, nasty printed ads in the regional paper; the usual shenanigans. All six councilmen have two year terms; the Mayor is elected for six (?) years. Both terms expire shortly and are all seven contests are tomorrow. All incumbents but one have opposition. Fun fun...
